A trader who has already installed MetaTrader, logged into a server and placed a simulated order has done four things a generic “interested in forex” record has not. That gap is the entire argument for buying platform-specific data, and it shows up in connect rates, conversation quality and deposit rates alike.
MetaTrader leads — records for traders with demonstrated MT4 or MT5 usage — are the highest-signal segment in retail forex data that is still available at volume. This is how the segment breaks down, where the volume actually sits, and how to pitch it without wasting the advantage you paid for.
Why platform usage is such a strong filter
Intent signals vary enormously in cost to the person producing them. Ticking a box on a landing page costs nothing. Installing a desktop or mobile terminal, creating an account on a broker’s demo server, configuring a chart and placing an order costs time and a modest amount of technical patience.
Economists call this a costly signal, and it behaves the way costly signals always do: the population that produces it is dramatically smaller and dramatically more serious than the population that produces the free one. In practice, verified MetaTrader users show:
- Higher connect rates, because the contact details were used to receive platform credentials and therefore had to be real.
- Shorter, more technical conversations, because you skip the entire explain-what-leverage-is stage.
- Materially better demo-to-live conversion, because the platform friction that stops most new traders has already been overcome.
That second point matters more than it looks. Sales floor time is the scarcest resource on a broker’s P&L, and a segment that removes ten minutes of education from every call changes the number of qualified conversations a seat produces per day.
MT4 versus MT5, and why the split still matters
| MT4 users | MT5 users | |
|---|---|---|
| Profile | Established retail FX traders, EA-heavy | Newer cohort, multi-asset, mobile-first |
| Age of cohort | Skews older, longer trading history | Skews younger, shorter history |
| What they respond to | Spreads, execution speed, EA compatibility, VPS | Asset range, mobile UX, onboarding speed |
| Switching friction | High — custom indicators and EAs are sticky | Lower |
| Best pitch angle | Cost per trade and execution quality | Breadth of instruments and account opening speed |
Selling an MT4 veteran on your mobile app is a wasted call. They have a chart layout they have used for six years and an EA they will not abandon. What moves them is a concrete spread comparison on the two pairs they actually trade, and confirmation that their expert advisors will run on your server.
Conversely, pitching execution latency to an MT5 mobile user who trades three times a month is precision they do not value. Speed of account opening and range of instruments carry that conversation.
Where the volume is
The largest verified MetaTrader populations in our pool sit in APAC and South-East Asia — Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. It is a young, platform-literate audience with the highest raw connect rates on file, and it converts unusually well on MT5-specific offers because the cohort arrived after MT5 became the default.
LATAM carries strong volume with a different character: mobile-first, WhatsApp-native, and receptive to prop-style offers as well as brokerage. Tier-1 Europe has the smallest MetaTrader-verified volume but the highest average deposit values, with the documentation burden that comes with it. The GCC sits between them, with the strongest deposit averages and exceptional messaging response rates.

Reading a supplier’s platform claim
“MetaTrader leads” is claimed far more often than it is true. Three questions separate real platform data from a generic list with a label applied:
- What is the evidence of platform usage? A demo account opened on a named broker’s server is evidence. A form field where the user selected “MT4” from a dropdown is a stated preference, which is considerably weaker and much cheaper to fabricate.
- Is the version recorded per record, or applied to the whole list? A file where every row says MT5 is a file where nobody checked.
- How old is the platform event? Demo accounts expire. A trader whose demo activity was eighteen months ago may well have funded elsewhere since — which makes them a competitor’s client, not your prospect.
The same four failure modes apply here as anywhere: bad contact data, bad consent, bad intent, bad timing. Platform verification addresses the third one specifically and does nothing about the other three, which is why it should sit on top of proper carrier-level validation rather than instead of it. We covered the full diagnostic framework in the guide to buying forex leads.
Working the segment
The advantage of platform data is technical credibility, and it is easy to squander with a generic opening. Three practical rules:
Lead with a number, not an introduction
“Our EURUSD spread is X during London session” opens better with this audience than any positioning statement. They are evaluating you on measurable things and will respect being addressed that way.
Ask what they trade before you pitch anything
Pairs, session, and whether they run automated strategies. The answer determines which of your three arguments is relevant, and asking it demonstrates you are not reading a script at them.
Make migration concrete
For MT4 users, the objection is almost never price — it is the cost of moving. Offering to help port templates and confirm EA compatibility removes the actual obstacle. Brokers who do this well close a segment that most desks write off as loyal to their incumbent.
Timing still dominates
None of the above survives a slow follow-up. Platform-verified records decay on the same curve as any other, and the decay on investor intent is steeper than most sales managers believe. A MetaTrader record worked on day nine performs worse than a generic record worked in the first hour. Buy the volume you can actually work inside the week, not the volume your budget allows.
Getting a read on it
The clean test is 1,000 records from one region, one platform version, worked inside seven days with the script held constant, measured on connect rate, conversation rate, deposit rate and thirty-day retention. Run it alongside your current source in the same fortnight and the comparison will be worth more than any supplier’s case study.
